May 27, 2018 – Day Twelve – Kreuztal

May 27, 2018 – Day Twelve – Kreuztal

The plan is to go to 9:30 mass and we’re out the door by nine.  And we’re there by 9:20.  Unfortunately, despite what the website said, there is no one else here!  Oh well;  karma points for trying!

Poppies seem to grow wild, but only occasionally and in small clumps.

We decide to take another crack at the Chinese restaurant, now that we know our way around a bit better.  We do it from memory and find not just the restaurant, but a lot of other little shops (It’s Sunday, so not much is open.) and an ATM!  I don’t know what the nice phone man will charge me tomorrow;  but he doesn’t take credit cards, and it’s better to be prepared.

It’s also still early enough to hit the bakery on our corner, right next to the Italian restaurant.  Just the aroma when you walk in is enough to slap ten pounds on your hips!!  We only get three yummies to take home.  We’re so strong!

Our neighborhood bakery, right next door to our Italina restaurant and landmark!

Back home we are getting out of the car when one of Henning’s neighbors walks past with his ever so friendly pooch.  We make friends with both the dog and the man and manage to explain that we’ve swapped houses.  He doesn’t seem surprised, and he says that, like us, he understands more than he can speak.  I catch a bit and Marilyn catches quite a bit more and actually converses with him.

Back upstairs and it’s time for breakfast – coffee, pastries, and fried eggs!  It’s such a treat to have eggs that aren’t boiled or scrambled!  A relaxed breakfast and some computer stuff.

Enough time has passed that it’s time for lunch!  PBJs and potato salad and, since it’s past noon, a glass of wine!  We’re just feeling pleasantly full and sleepy when a sudden rain storm comes up.  The beautiful sound of the rain.  We’re just deciding that maybe we should close the windows even further when the rain turns to HAIL!  It’s very intense for about five minues, with stones about 3/8th of an inch in diameter, and then the hail is over.  The rain, too quits just a few minutes after that!  Just a touch of excitement to remind us that back home there is the first named storm of the hurricane season, Alberto, threatening our shores.  Happily it’s just a sub-tropical storm, not a full-fledged nasty!

When all is quiet again Marilyn goes off to take a nap and I try to catch up this blog.  We’ve also spent some time rating our hotels on Booking.com.  Most were quite nice; but two were exceptionally fine and one was ridiculous!  People need to know either way!
