May 23, 2018 – Day Eight -
Konstanz to Worms (stop laughing!) (Photos coming when iPhoto decides it's through "repairing" my library!)
Up and out of our tiny room and off we go to retrieve our
car from the car park. It was twenty
euros to park over night! We’re on our
way to Triberg to see the highest water fall in Germany!
It’s pretty easy to find and to walk to, along a paved path
and up some stairs. Beautiful sight!!
There are also signs along the path suggesting
which exercise you should do at each point!
Then it’s on to Gutag for a visit to the Vogtsbaurenhof, or
open-air folk museum, an old German farm complete with all the craftspeople who
would have been necessary to keep a farm community running. It sprinkles for only long enough to baptize
our new ponchos, then it’s dry again. We
are hungry and stop at the museum café for dinner. We split a plate of pasta pockets filled with spinach, onion, and cheese, with
with tomato sauce, and accompanied by a green salad and German potato
salad. We told the server we would be
sharing; but a second plate never appeared, so we just
split the plate down the middle and leaned into the center of the table. We were having white-wine spritzers, so it
didn’t matter much. And to make it even
better, we finished off with Black Forest cake!
What more could you ask, but seven layers of chocolate cake, dark
cherries, and whipped cream!!
When we paid our admission we also paid for our
parking; that saved us four Euros. Unfortunately, when we put the ticket into
the machine to exit, it wouldn’t work.
After questioning a shopkeeper, we found the information button and the
lady said she would take care of it. The
shopkeeper came over to see if she could help;
but about that time the gate opened and we were free!!
The trucks are so strange! They don't have solid metal sides; but rather some sort of canvas! |
I'll try to get a shot of one of the "naked" ones! |
Now we’re headed for Worms, and to bed! We’ve gotten directions on line and also by
email from the Altes Ruderhaus. We
learned our lesson yesterday and told them that we would not arrive by four o’clock,
their closing time. The directions are a
bit strange, what with the language difficulty, but we get lucky and actually
find it without too much trouble!
There is a restaurant along with the guest house and Marilyn
goes in to ask where to park. There is
an adjacent lot; but it is pretty
full. They say that many of the cars
belong to diners, and a space should open soon.
In the meantime we go to reception and learn how to use the code on the
key box to retrieve our key. This is the
nicest place we’ve stayed. Our room door
has a big sign on it, so we don’t miss it.
Inside, our registration papers are artfully placed on one of the beds,
and each beg has a small package of Haribo goldbears on it! And there is a complimentary bottle of
mineral water with two glasses and an opener atop them! We feel so welcome!
Even the towels are folded artfully!
From our guest house parking lot! |
Awww! |
We deposit our things and repair to the restaurant for a
Jack and Coke each. I had asked for a
rusty nail, but they don’t have Scotch!
I didn’t even inquire about Drambuie!!
We spend time looking at the maps – again – and decide that
tomorrow doesn’t really have to be a mad dash to get to the next spot! Instead, we can have a leisurely morning,
drive to Klotten, get some rest and an early start the next day. What a relief!!
It’s like a fairy land. And no matter what happens or where you go, you stay positive & shoot beautiful pictures. Thank you.
